Safeguarding and Protecting Children  23/09/10 or 15/011/10

Every week hundreds of thousands of youngsters happily and safely participate in the care of dedicated sports coaches. To ensure that good work continues in a safe environment, organisers, coaches and parents must be aware of child protection issues. How can coaches/helpers protect themselves from wrongful accusations?

Cost: £25.00

Venue: Meggetland/Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh

Time: 6.00pm to 9.00pm

Why attend and what to bring: Attend if you are a new coach and in particular if you require the credits for your license or qualification. Also attend if you would like a refresher on child protection issues and your responsibilities as a coach. Sports Coach UK recommend a refresher is undertaken every 3 years

DISCLOSURES

Self Dec Form

Now is a good time to get organised for next season. To fulfil your club’s legal obligations you need to check that anyone who is likely to be in a child care position eg coaching or managing has a disclosure IN THE NAME OF YOUR CLUB. People will tell you they have a disclosure for work etc but  may be unaware that they need to have one in your club’s name in order to comply with legal requirements.

This is easy just do the following:

  1. Email Nicola Allum at Scottish Hockey and ask her to email you a list of people who are disclosed for your club.Nicola.allum@scottish-hockey.org.uk

  2. If  the names of those who are likely to be in a child care position do not appear on that list get them to fill out the attached form and return it to Scottish Hockey. N.B. You will need to change the red print which currently says East District to the name of your club.
  3. If they require to fill out a full disclosure they will be sent this form by Scottish Hockey.

If I can be of any further help please let me know.
