EAST DISTRICT BOYS UNDER 18 INDOOR

EAST DISTRICT U18 BOYS DO THE DOUBLE, INDOOR & OUTDOOR CHAMPIONS 2010-11!

Scottish U18 Boys Indoor, Sunday 30^th January 2011 – The Peak, Forthbank, Stirling

The U18 Boys also completed an East Indoor Double following the U18 Girls win at the same venue the day before.

Following a respectable 9am meet at Meggetland the squad set off for Stirling picking up Duncan Ruzzak, our regular East Boys Development Umpire, on the way.

On arrival we all watched the first half of West v Midland before meeting in the changing rooms for issuing strips, team talk and preparing for the game ahead. This was to be the established pattern for the rest of the day given Easts fixture schedule.The U18 Boys matches were the ideal 2 halfs of 15 minutes and the schedule had been carefully planned by Scottish Hockey to have rest periods between double headers.

General Positions:

Goal Keepers: Charles Posnett & Sean Hadfield

Centres & Defence: Andrew Malcolm, David Patterson (Captain), Duncan Riddell (Vice-Captain) & Paul Taylor

Forwards: Aedan McCrossan, Angus Robb, Charles Buchanan-Smith, Corey Hastings,
Jake Hibbert & Paul Waugh

Starting line for games were Sean Hadfield (GK), Andrew Malcolm & Duncan Riddell (Defence), David Patterson (Centre), Corey Hastings & Jake Hibbert (Forwards) with all other players making valuable contributions and ensuring the victory at the end of the day.

3-1 to West against Midland. This gave an early indicator of our main competition and it was vital to get off to a good start with a win!

11:15 East v North – 4-0

1^st Half, 3^rd min 1-0 Goal by Corey following a typical Jake drive.

8^th min 2-0 Goal by Jake after another of those drives.

9^th min 3-0 Another drive and a goal but this time by Duncan.

2^nd Half 13^th min 4-0 Penalty stroke by David into net to far right of keeper.

A good start although East lost their shape after scoring the 3^rd goal rather than maintain structure and push on. This was stressed in the post match brief though as their first indoor game as a squad we were off to a good start.

11-1 to West against North. West had qualified for the final but East knew they would join them with another win.

13:15 East v Midland – 7-1

1^st Half, 4^th min 1-0 Short corner low by Andy after slip pass by David, injection by Jake.

13^th min 2-0 Same short corner routine by scored by Duncan.

14^th min 3-0 Jake, open play.

15^th min 4-0 David, open play.

2^nd Half 3^rd min 5-0 Short corner by Duncan.

3^rd min 6-0 Paul Waugh from restart.

6^th min 7-0 Aedan goal after Paul Waugh drive into D and slip pass.

10^th min 7-1 Soft short corner.

East was into the final and there was a sense of déjà vu as next Pool game was East v West although both teams had already qualified. This was the same scenario as the U18 Outdoor with hopefully the same outcome!

14:30 East v West (Pool Match) – 1-2

1^st Half, 2^nd min 1-0 Corey goal. Tap in at back post following a careful build up from back involving all players.

3^rd min 1-1 Open play.

7^th min 1-2 Short corner.

With both sides conserving their energy and plays for the final, this match was unfortunately rather flat and in the end unnecessary.

16:15 East v West (Final) – 6-3

1^st Half, 3^rd min 1-0 Andy, short corner repeat of opening score against Midland.

4^th min 1-1 Open play.

6^th min 2-1 Andy, short corner but this time a drag flick into the net.

7^th min 2-2 Open play.

8^th min 3-2 Corey tip past the goal keeper after great pressure play.

2^nd Half 2^nd min 4-2 Andy, short corner drag flick. Hat Trick!

5^th min 4-3 Open play.

8^th min 5-3 David, open play into side net.

10^th min 6-3 Jake deflection high into the net following hard push into D from Andy.
Last and best Goal of the tournament!

All the players are to be congratulated for this achievement, not just those that listed above!
