Under 15 Girls Trials Information

U.15 TRIALS 2nd AND 9th MARCH 2007

Selection Criteria        Under 15 Girls Trials Nomination Form

East District Youth Girls U.15 Trials will take place on Friday 2nd and 9th March at Edinburgh University ground,

Peffermill playing fields from 5pm - 7pm.

Tournament Sunday 3rd June 07 at DISC, Dundee. (so please ensure all trialists are available if selected )

The cost of hiring Peffermill has increased so the bill for holding trials on two pitches for (8 hours) two weeks will be £333.50.

It was agreed to charge trialists £5 per player to contribute towards to pitch hire costs. Schools/clubs can either pay this on behalf of their

players or make the player pay £5 themselves. All players are invited to attend on both dates so the £5 must be paid on the day ie 2/3/07 prior to

the start of trials as the player registers.

Names, addresses, D of B of your nominees should be returned to me either by post or email, no later than Thursday 8th February, ie before half term.

Late entries will not be accepted as lists will be compiled over half term.

Trialists will participate in stick work drills based on the Stix awards and play small sided games.

Please find attached a trials nomination form and selection criteria, please read carefully. Also ask your nominees if they are prepared to commit

themselves to 9 weeks of training especially if they have SQA exams. In addition please ensure your players are aware that District training takes

priority over all social events on Friday evenings. In the past some players have not been very good at this and wonder why they have been cut

from the squad.

SCHOOLS / CLUBS SENDING PLAYERS TO TRIALS RECOGNISE THAT DISTRICT HOCKEY

TAKES PRIORITY OVER ALL OTHER HOCKEY ON FRIDAY TRAINING DATES MARCH

JUNE.

Please send your best players regardless of age. If your S2 players are stronger do not be sentimental.

Please note in order to send girls to District trials YOUR SCHOOL/CLUB MUST BE AFFILIATED BOTH TO SHU AND EAST DISTRICT.

East can only enter a team for the U.15 Inter District tournament if we nominate one or two U.18 umpires. This is a condition of entry. Please

identify a senior pupil who can umpire and include his/her name on the U.15 trials form. There is no point having trials, selecting then training a

squad of players as our entry will not be accepted without named umpires.

Last year the U.18 umpires umpired and received mentoring at U.15 training.

At the Tournament they were mentored by ‘A’ badge umpires.

Please discuss trials and District commitment with your nominees to confirm their attendance and participation as late withdrawals causes great

disruption and withdrawal from the training squad if selected is selfish and inconsiderate.

At this stage East District does not have parental consent/medical forms for the trialists so school teachers/club coaches are acting in loco parentis.

School staff /club officials are asked to accompany their players in case of accident /injury.

In addition to selectors, umpires will be required to ensure the smooth running of the trials.

East Girls have won the U.15 Inter District Tournament held in Aberdeen on Sunday 4th June. This is a tremendous achievement and reward for all the commitment and hard work from the players and coaches during the 8 weeks or 14 hours of training.

The girls were unbeaten played 6, won 4, drawn 2 goals for 5, Goals against 0.

Results

v South won 1-0

v West A won 2-0

v South West won 1-0

v North won 1-0

v Midlands drew 0-0

v West B drew 0-0

Many thanks to the management team, coaches Jenny Lyall, Hannah Kiltie, GK coach Ellen Muir and manager Caroline Bascombe. Many, many thanks to Jenny, Hannah and Caroline who looked after the girls on their overnight trip tp Aberdeen, that was Saturday night and all day Sunday.  Many thanks too, to Harriet Bascombe who was East's U.18 umpire and I hear she did a great job.

The bad news is that as winners East can enter TWO teams next year (knock on effect for U.14 selection and East will need 2 managers to supervise the girls in Dundee but it is only an away day)

Thanks to Senior District for funding the £860 transport bill plus driver's accommodation and meal costs.
